Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Counselling & Psychotherapy?
Counselling and Psychotherapy offer a space to pause, reflect, and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface — emotionally, mentally, and even physically. While counselling often focuses on specific challenges or life transitions, psychotherapy tends to work at a deeper level, exploring patterns that shape how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world.
In practice, the two often overlap. Whether you're facing anxiety, overwhelm, grief, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can help you better understand your experience, reconnect with your strengths, and find new ways forward.
In our sessions, I aim to create a safe, grounded, and respectful space. Together we’ll work to clarify what matters most to you, make sense of emotional patterns, and support you in moving toward more connection, ease, and self-trust.
Psychotherapy isn’t just about managing symptoms, it’s about reconnecting with who you are and how you want to live.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to see you?
No referral is needed — you’re welcome to book directly. Simply choose a time that suits you via the booking page, or get in touch if you have any questions.
Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan for Counselling and Psychotherapy services?
At this time, counselling and psychotherapy are not eligible for Medicare rebates, so a Mental Health Care Plan can’t be used to reduce session costs. This may evolve as professional organisations continue to advocate for more inclusive mental health funding in Australia.
Even without a referral or plan, counselling and psychotherapy remain highly accessible. You can book sessions directly without needing a diagnosis, GP appointment, or paperwork, allowing you to begin support as soon as you feel ready. Many people appreciate the privacy, flexibility, and depth these approaches offer.
At Peninsula MindCare, we aim keep our fees reasonable so clients can access consistent, meaningful support without unnecessary barriers.
Can I use NDIS funding for sessions?
Yes — if you are self-managed under the NDIS, you may be able to use your funding for counselling or psychotherapy services. While we are not a registered NDIS provider, many clients in these categories are able to claim session costs using the invoice provided after payment.
If you're unsure, it’s a good idea to check with your plan manager or support coordinator to confirm that your plan includes funding for therapeutic support or capacity building services.
Do you offer a free introductory call?
Yes . I offer a free 15-minute introductory call. This is not a therapy session, but a no-obligation space for us to talk about what you're seeking support with, and whether we feel like a good fit for working together. You're welcome to ask questions and get a feel for how I work before committing to a full session.
What are your fees?
Initial consultation (60 mins): $170
Ongoing sessions (50 mins): $155
Concession and seniors rates are available — please contact me to discuss.
Do you offer online or remote appointments?
Yes, Aside from face-to-face sessions in the clinic, I offer online tele-health sessions via secure video, as well as walk-and-talk therapy. These are great options for clients who prefer movement, fresh air, or a more grounded setting.
How often should I attend sessions?
This varies for each person. Some clients attend weekly or fortnightly for continuity and momentum, while others may book sessions on an as-needed basis. We’ll discuss what feels most supportive for you during our work together.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes — your privacy is respected and protected. All sessions are confidential, with the exception of situations where I am legally required to report concerns for your safety or the safety of others (as a mandatory reporter). This will be explained clearly in our first session.
